How to set up Pinterest for your business

So you’ve decided you want to try your hand at wielding the power of Pinterest for marketing your business? Let me join in on the festivities and celebration with a grand

CONGRATULATIONS!

You’re probably wondering, what now, right? You’ve finally decided to stop sleeping on the power of Pinterest, so how do you start using Pinterest for your business? Hang on tight my friend. I have the easiest 5 steps to get you started! Let’s get this party started, shall we?!

Create a business account

Are you converting from a personal account or creating a new business account? There’s really only a small difference between the setup of a brand new business account and converting your personal to a business.

If you are creating a new business account, then you will start fresh with everything, while a personal account converted to a business account will carry over your profile image and information.

What you are prompted to fill out in the conversion can be changed at any time so DO NOT stress over it!

So you have your business account ready, now what? Let’s move on to the other 4 steps you’ll need to take to set your Pinterest business account up for success! There will be an extra step to optimize your profile if you are a personal account converting to a business account.

Profile image

When setting up your Pinterest business account, you need to make sure your profile image is of you. If you aren’t the face of your company, then a small logo will be fine as long as it is legible and apparent it is your company.

Cover image with a CTA

A personalized cover image is not necessary, there have been many accounts that have been successful in growth without a cover image at all. However, if you want to optimize your profile to its fullest potential, why not add a CTA (call-to-action) to your cover?

Keyword-rich name and about

Now that you have your profile and cover images set up, you are ready to ensure the rest of your profile is optimized with keywords! Your keywords/SEO will be niche-focused. This is where you can state your name, what you do, and if you are a founder of a company and/or program.

Your “about” should also be keyword-rich! What would your ideal audience type into the search bar to find you and your content? These are the keywords you want within your about. Don’t forget to include a CTA, whether it be to join your Facebook group or check out a free resource you have to offer.

Niche related boards w/ keyword-rich titles and descriptions

Your boards should be niche-focused and related to topics you’re able to provide consistent content. Your board titles should be a keyword your ideal audience would search for and the description should have keywords related to the pins and content that will be pinned to that particular board.

DO NOT just keyword stuff! You want your descriptions to be full sentences as if you were having a conversation with your ideal audience.

When Converting From a Personal to Business Account

If you have decided to convert your account, the extra step you’ll have to do is to hide any non-related boards. You can still pin to these boards for personal use, the algorithm won’t factor it into your analytics and other pinners won’t be confused by the un-related topics. It’s a win-win!

Now that you have your Pinterest business account set up for success, now what?

You start creating pins to go into those niche-related boards of course!
